The other way into town from Ferihegy, is by LRI's Airport Shuttle Bus (Tel: 296 8555). The cost of this service is 2800 Hungarian Forints per person. The service takes visitors to any address in the downtown area. For a small surcharge, they'll even take you to districts further afield so long as the address is within the city limits. Single or return tickets can be purchased from the company's passenger service desks located in both terminals. Returning to the airport is also easy; simply call LRI's number and they'll pick you up from your hotel.

There are also two public transport services into the city; LRI's blue liveried  Centrum - Airport - Centrum minibuses which run to and from Erzsébet tér bus station (from 05:30-21:30) and the local 93 bus service between the airport and Köbánya-Kispest metro station. Buses which display the number in black travel only to Ferihegy 1, whereas those with a red 93 serve both terminals. A pre-purchased ticket is needed for the journey. From Köbánya-Kispest station it's a 20 minute journey to the city centre.

Buses & Trams

The network of tram (villamos) and bus routes throughout the city provide a fast, frequent way to get around. All-night services also operate on the major thoroughfares in the city (night bus timetables are posted at stops and in most metro stations).

On buses, trolleybuses and trams, validate your ticket by using the punching machines as you board.

Metro System

The subway system is clean and efficient, with trains running at regular intervals of between 3 and 4 minutes.  Metro stations are easily located on maps and streets by the 'M' symbol:

The oldest part of the network is line M1(the yellow line) (signed Földalatti) which was built in the 1890s to celebrate the Magyar millennium. The line runs between downtown Vörösmarty tér and Mexikói út. Stations are easily accessible, being just below ground level.

Lines 2 and 3 were built during the 70s. Line 2 (red) runs from the eastern outskirts of the city (Örs vezér tér), past Keleti (Eastern) railway station and on to the Belváros before crossing under the Danube to Pest's Déli pu (Southern) station. Line 3 (blue) runs from the northern suburbs to the busy Deák tér interchange, before heading south towards the airport and Kobánya Kispest

Taxis

In Hungary taxis have yellow license plates and must have a meter able to give receipts.

Bigger taxi companies are :
    Budataxi
    Citytaxy
    Fötaxi
    Rádiotaxi
    Tele5 Taxi
    6X6 Taxi
Rates per kilometer when booked by phone are cheaper than flagged down on street. There are also many private taxis. Generally speaking it's advisable to check the fare before you start.
